On Tuesday 17 October 2017 The Red House had a special visit from the award-winning New York Times bestselling novelist G.P. Taylor who gave a workshop for children from five different local primary schools: Aldeburgh, Hollesley, Earl Soham, Reyden and Rendlesham. The workshop was an Able Writers Day (administered by Authors Abroad), and was the first to be hosted outside of a school environment. The day-long session focused on developing the children’s writing skills, and inspiration from the sea.

We were delighted to have such an experienced author to run this workshop, and he clearly enjoyed the inspiration of the site. G.P. Taylor’s works include Shadowmancer, Wormwood, the Mariah Mundi trilogy and the Dopple Ganger Chronicles.

The day was extremely enjoyable for the children and was a huge success for all involved. The children also had the opportunity to have a short tour of the site led by Joe Carr, Collections and Learning Curator. Many of the groups had not been here before, so this was an opportunity to introduce them to Britten and his life here at The Red House.

We hope to continue this relationship with Authors Abroad and after the success of this session, a number of authors have shown interest in leading workshops at The Red House. We are hopeful that the next Able Writers Day will be hosted in March 2018.
