David Gillingwater, an oil painter based on the Suffolk coast, will be occupying Mary Potter’s art studio for the annual Aldeburgh Studio Trail on the 19-20 and 26-27 June.

It will be his second exhibition in Red Studio; in 2019 he exhibited a selection of portraits based on photographs of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears. Entitled Variations on a Theme, he brought vibrant colour and brush stroke to images normally only seen in black and white. One such painting, has been donated to Britten Pears Arts to raise funds to support the work the charity delivers across both locations at The Red House and Snape Maltings.

The raffle is open to UK residents and costs £5 per ticket and you can enter now by clicking this link.

The original was a publicity photograph taken in 1945 and used to promote his first opera Peter Grimes. It was first included in the arts magazine Our Time (1945) and later for The Lantern in 1947.
