A Child of Our Time Study Day

Saturday 16 March at 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

An immersive day hosted by BPF’s Lucy Walker marking the 75th anniversary of Tippett’s most well-known work, A Child of our Time. This remarkable choral piece was premiered on 19 March 1944 and featured Peter Pears as one of the soloists. Oliver Soden, author of Michael Tippett: The Biography (published in April) will discuss the work’s context including the dramatic events that inspired it, and in the afternoon we will be joined by Katy Hamilton who will look at how Tippett structured the work around its famous spirituals. The day will conclude with some live music from the piece.
