Marking the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote (passed into law on 6 February 1918), we will spend an afternoon discussing this significant moment in time, its effects on women in Aldeburgh and elsewhere in the country, and some of the town’s most prominent campaigners: Millicent Fawcett and Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. There will also be an opportunity to reflect on the developments of women’s rights over the last 100 years with our host for the day, feminist rights campaigner Polly Trenow and contributors Dr Lucy Walker (Britten-Pears Foundation) and historian Dr Viv Newman, author of the forthcoming book Suffragism and the Great War.
