War Requiem Study Day

A day of talks and discussion about Britten’s remarkable War Requiem. Composed in 1961 and premiered in Coventry Cathedral in May 1962, it is one of Britten’s most enduring and most-performed works. Many aspects of this multi-faceted piece will be covered, including Wilfred Owen’s poetry, the art of commemoration, the dramatic force of War Requiem in performance, and a guide to its musical themes and structure. Speakers include novelist Salley Vickers, Dr Kate Kennedy (from the Oxford Centre for Life Writing) and BPF’s Lucy Walker.
There will be a performances of the work at Snape Maltings at 7.30pm in the evening. Tickets are available via Snape Maltings here or by calling 01728 687110.
