Daily at 1pm

A 20-minute talk given by a member of the Britten–Pears Foundation team. In Week 1 (8-15 June), we look at some of the fascinating pieces Britten composed while living in America between 1939-1942, coinciding with their Festival performances. Talk: Artists as Emigrants

To mark Peter Pears’ 108th birthday, art historian Dr Mandy Bentley discusses artists represented in the Britten–Pears Foundation collection in whose work the challenges and rewards of emigration have played a significant part. While each artist’s experiences and responses are individual, their various narratives draw out fascinating themes relating to identity and the role of ‘place’.
