We can’t wait to open our doors tomorrow, and for you to see the changes and new additions we’ve made! Within our refreshed reception area, we have a new museum shop where you’ll find a selection of products in keeping with the setting, including beauty and home fragrance products inspired by country gardens, a gardening range, and children's toys with a nature theme. The complete Snape Maltings Collection of candles, diffusers, mugs and sweet treats sits alongside books and music which take inspiration from the garden and its famous residents.

Last week work was completed in installing the mur

Last week work was completed in installing the mural by James Barker. Britten and Pears’ cottage in Horham was once part of the Barker family’s farm and as such they got to know each other well 🧱⠀
⠀
Barker was in his late teens in 1975-6 when Britten asked him to create a mural after seeing a similar one at the family’s home. It was installed on one of the enclosed walls by the swimming pool at The Red House. More recently, the mural was taken down in order to free up space for the main exhibition in the gallery. For the past month, artist Richard Oliver was tasked with piecing together each element on the garden wall opposite the Library windows.⠀

We were lucky to have the support of the Barker family who were generous in answering our many questions which included what type of paint was used!⠀
⠀
Do seek it out when you visit. The forms are based on a square – either as a full shape, a frame or broken up elements. When the sun shines over it, the shadows add depth to the many forms and shapes that Barker created!⠀
