Early Philip Sutton

The first sale of one of Philip Sutton’s pictures through a commercial gallery was in 1955 to Peter Pears, who was initially drawn to Sutton’s rich and vibrant colour palate. In total Pears and Britten collected seven oil paintings by Sutton and these will be displayed together for the first time in Britten’s Library.
