Britten Pears Arts: Our plans for re-opening

Wednesday March 10 2021

We are excited to share with you our plans for starting concerts and events again and re-opening our sites and shops in both Aldeburgh and Snape. Having played a leading role as one of the first venues to open and give live concerts indoors last year, we are keen to employ musicians again and give back to our community. Of course, as with all organisations, our plans are tied to the government’s roadmap for relaxing COVID measures and are therefore subject to change.

13 April
The Red House gardens will re-open for visitors

April – May
Behind the scenes recitals from Britten’s own Library at The Red House, Aldeburgh, to be streamed online at later dates.

20 May
Britten and Pears’ home including the library, composing studio and gallery spaces, will open for visitors to experience its unique atmosphere, intimate charm and a new pop-up outdoor garden café.

May – September
A full Summer at Snape programme, with indoor concerts starting on 21 May at Snape Maltings and running throughout the summer, plus family-friendly outdoor events.

In the absence of being able to create a full Aldeburgh Festival in June – with its unique mix of international artists, opera, large-scale performances, multiple stages and variety of small venues – we will offer a series of special events as part of our summer programme that is recognisably connected to the ethos of the Aldeburgh Festival, with a focus on Britten’s music, new work and commissions.

As part of Summer at Snape, Snape Maltings Concert Hall will host daily performances in the spirit of the Snape Proms from outstanding artists and ensembles from the worlds of classical music, folk and jazz.
